One Line Book Reviews: April

oneline5This month’s OLBR post is a little late because I wanted to finish the trilogy I was reading so I could review it as a whole. I’m still pretty sad it’s over.

Shatter Me, Unravel Me, Ignite Me: The Shatter Me Trilogy – Tahereh Mafi
It was an interesting premise. Has a bit of an X-Men vibe, but I thought there was too much emphasis on the love triangle and all of Adam’s tantrums over Juliette and Aaron got tiring very quickly.

Ms. Marvel 1-3 – G Willow Wilson
This is the series with the Pakistani Ms. Marvel and it’s pretty damn fantastic. Go read them now. So good!

Daughter of Smoke & Bone, Days of Blood & Starlight, Dreams of Gods & Monsters – Daughter of Smoke & Bone Trilogy – Laini Taylor
I’ve been reading a lot of YA trilogies lately, and I don’t think any of them have come so close to consistently excellent as this series. It’s so beautiful in concept and execution and I can’t wait to get physical copies of the books (I read it on my Kobo) just so I can enjoy the beautiful cover art on my already over-burdened bookshelves. There is just so much love and beauty in the language; the imagery is so rich which makes Eretz seems so vivid. And despite the heaviness of the story itself, there is a lightness in the language of the characters that makes forget how terrible things are for a little while at least. I really took my time with the last book because I didn’t want it to end and I have been missing since I did finish it. I don’t think it will be long before I reread this series again.
